Travel journal Bad Salzdetfurth

This time a weekend in Bad Salzdetfurth - and then also in the weather not so friendly month of November! The area south of Hanover - the Leinebergland - where our relexa hotel is located, is not as well known as the other locations of the ten relexa hotels. The relexa hotel Bad Salzdetfurth proves to be a perfect surprise for a short break (and is, of course, a suitable holiday destination for larger projects). But as always, we have a very special weekend.

The gentle hilly landscape south of Hanover - the Leinebergland - is of a special charm and offers so many highlights that one must definitely return

Thanks to the central location and easy access to the A7, the journey is no problem. After about ten kilometers drive through the hilly landscape with well-groomed places and much restored half-timbered building you are then at the finish. Parking search? Zero Problemo, i. Enough space for everyone in the hotel's car park, free of charge. Very lovingly and competently one is received at the hotel reception, so you immediately feel at home. If you can hardly wait to check your e-mails quickly, you should leave the password for the hotel's WLAN access.

After check-in, we recommend a visit to the cozy "Kaminrestaurant". In the winter, the large open fireplace is a real highlight, in the summer probably its large terrace with a view into the green. As everywhere else at relexa, you can choose from a constantly updated menu, but if a "star deer is served on parsnip puree" as a starter, you should definitely try it. A poem! A drink at the hotel bar could be a good ending to the romantic dinner, alternatively a visit to the newly designed spacious hotel sauna.

After waking up in wonderful calm begins the agony of the choice: First swim in the in-house swimming pool with 27 ° warm water or first jogging in the neighborhood? Or first of all, with one of the hotel bikes explore the cyclist-friendly environment? Of course, you can go for breakfast.

Only 20 minutes to the world cultural heritage town Hildesheim

As your decision also turns out to be: the breakfast makes the name »rich relexa breakfast buffet« all honor. With its old Viennese-style furniture, small and larger niches and nice accessories, the "Beisl" restaurant is a small piece of jewelery. If you are with children, the "Kinderspielhöhle", a lovingly furnished playroom opposite the restaurant, proves to be a true blessing. So you can drink a cup of coffee or treat yourself to a well-chilled glass of sparkling wine, which is part of the breakfast service to plan your day. After about 20 minutes you are in the middle of the Weltkulturerbe city Hildesheim. Here you can park comfortably in the city comfortably and in attractive designed pedestrian zones and business streets with short distances to stroll and shop. Unfortunately, a large part of the city has been destroyed by the end of World War II. After the war, the historic market square was extensively reconstructed and shines as a real gem in new (old) splendor. During a walk in the historic streets of Hildesheim you can still find other well-preserved half-timbered buildings with often wonderful motifs. Hildesheim is especially famous for its St. Michaelis Church and the Mariendom, which have been awarded UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. Both churches preserve an extraordinarily large number of historic features that give a unique overview of the design of a Romanesque church. However, the 1,000-year-old legendary Rosenstock, which is located at the apse of the cathedral, is still to be admired. If you want to explore both world cultural heritage churches on foot, you should wear appropriate shoes and have a map (there in the hotel). Anyone who is unaware of the "sign of the rose", that one always finds again on the citizen dough, quickly gets into detours. The idea, which was first felt as ingenious, to follow the rose simply by the roses, turns out to be a trap for the local people - unless you like to wander for a long time.

Hildesheim is home to many museums with world-class art treasures. The "Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum" (RPM) is especially known for its collection of ancient Egyptians and for high-caliber special exhibitions.

In the summer season a walk in the "Magdalenengarten" is one of the oldest monastic gardens in Lower Saxony. At the heart of the garden plan, redesigned by the Baroque, is the Rosarium with 1,800 sensory roses. The "Magdalenenfest" will be held here in Rosenmontat June with a leisure and garden fair and many cultural highlights.

Jazz and classical music in the picture book castle of the Welfen

Now we leave Hildesheim, because there is still a must for all the first visitors of this pretty land. It is time to visit Prince Ernst and Christian of Hanover, Dukes of Brunswick and Lüneburg. In its possession is the wonderful castle Marienburg, located 15 km northwest of Hildesheim.

Its distinctive silhouette on the south-west slope of the Marienberg mountain ranges from the gentle hills of the Leinetal valley and gives the visitor the feeling of being immersed in a world of fairy tales. Marienburg Castle is the typical "picture book princess castle lock" with many towers and towers. With its painted vaults, arched windows, paintings, precious furniture and weapons from the history of the Welfenhauses and the Kingdom of Hanover, it is one of the most important Neo-Gothic monuments in Germany. From 5 March, the castle and the castle restaurant will be open daily, until Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. During the season there are varied concerts at the Marienburg Castle. For jazz lovers, the first Sunday of the month is a jazz festival. The classic fan expects a concert in the Rittersaal every month. At the reception of the relexa hotels Bad Salzdetfurth you can be informed about all upcoming dates. There are also vouchers for admission tickets including one hour tour. After a short car trip you are tired and full of new impressions back in the hotel. Right now is the right moment for a saunagang. In the newly designed resting room on one of the showcases overlooking the swimming pool you could now relax with a glass of sparkling wine and look forward to the dinner.

You can dine not only in the Kaminrestaurant, but also in the cozy bistro with a generous bar. The ambience is just as good as the freshness of the well-stocked menu. As in all relexa hotels, regional and seasonal dishes are on offer. And here, too, one feels as a guest how well the service staff of the local relexa team are integrated. The bar is also the place where this packed Saturday can endure unabated.

Brine spa with historic old town flair

If you do not have the hurry with the return trip the next morning, a walk through the town of Bad Salzdetfurth is recommended. The acknowledged brine and moorbad has a picturesque historical old town, with the river Lamme snaking in the middle. The well-kept half-timbered houses, some of which date back to the 17th century, still contain old inscriptions with the name of the owner, the year of construction, a spell and carvings. The 250 years old grading works and the Salt-Kali mining museum testify to the tradition of traditional salt production.

The high percentage of saline salt water and a healing low-mud from the neighborhood provide the basic materials for medicinal applications. And this is the last tip for a Bad Salzdetfurth visit: therapies for the co-treatment of many diseases can be booked in the Kurmittel- or Solebadehaus with thermal bath which is only a few minutes' walk from the relexa hotel.
